Project overview

The Burgh Hall remained in active use until the 1960s when the building closed, having lost its pre-eminence in the town some years earlier following the completion of the Queen's Hall, a new theatre venue. Subsequently the building fell into disrepair and its potential demolition in 2008 inspired local outrage and the John McAslan Family Trust's intervention to save the building.

The Trust's purchase of the Burgh Hall from its previous owner Fyne Homes in early 2009 was inspired by a vision of the building's potential for renewal and transformation.

So far, it has:
  • Committed £75,000 for the purchase and essential repairs to the Burgh Hall, which has brought it back into partial use from May 2009.
  • Initiated an action plan, business plan, fundraising strategy, and design proposals for the future viable development of the Hall, working in partnership with the Friends of the Burgh Hall, a range of stakeholders, the Strathclyde Building Preservation Trust, and the local community
